Ensuring stable performance in multi-band optical networks requires robust transient control mechanisms, especially when traffic disruptions lead to channel drops. In such scenarios, amplifiers must dynamically adjust their gain and tilt to maintain error-free transmission for surviving channels. Recent experimental verifications under the B5G-OPEN initiative highlight how these adjustments can be implemented effectively.

Figure 2: Output power per band normalized to the total launch power and represented in logarithmic units for a C+L–band system for three different drop scenarios. The three scenarios are illustrated for three channels in the depopulated L–band.
